STEWARDSHIP LETTER (from the Very Rev. Eddie Ard)
Dear Parishioner,
My friend and Tanzanian Anglican priest Darius was taking me around to meet some of his parishioners in a remote village. We had a brief visit with a family and as we were leaving, a young girl from that family ran to catch us and asked us to wait. Her teenage brother then appeared and came towards us holding a live chicken. The teenager walked up to me and with a wonderful smile gave me the hen. Darius was surprised, but not as surprised as I was. The family decided to show their gratitude for my visit by giving me a chicken. As I looked around at the faces of the family members, I saw their shared joy and excitement.
As I looked around at the faces of the family members, I saw their shared joy and excitement. I do not have any way to know the financial value of this chicken. What I do know is that the chicken was a significant gift and that the family was overcome with joy in their expression of gratitude.
This moment comes to mind as I think about the stewardship of our treasure this season as we continue our journey toward and beyond tithing. As we consider our financial gifts to God through Saint Anne's for 2009, I invite you to think about this Tanzanian family gift, and I invite us all to think like them and give like them - freely and generously and with joy and excitement.
The Stewardship Committee and Vestry are asking that we all return our pledge cards for 2009 on or before our All Saints' celebration on November 2, 2008. The Vestry would very much like to adopt the 2009 budget at its December 21 meeting.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generosity.
Faithfully,
Eddie J. Ard
